Job Description

Cemza is seeking an experienced Assistant Manager – Quality to join our Port Elizabeth Plant. This role is responsible for ensuring the effectiveness of daily laboratory operations, maintaining quality management systems, and supporting production through accurate analysis and reporting.

The successful candidate will oversee raw material verification, in-process testing, and final product quality, while also managing team performance, training, and compliance with safety and environmental standards. This is a key leadership role focused on maintaining high-quality standards and driving continuous improvement.

Duties & Responsibilties

Ensure raw material verification, in-process, and final product testing is conducted accurately.

Plan and manage shift work and overtime within the lab team.

Maintain and update quality management systems and work instructions.

Ensure correct product quality and quantity standards are consistently met.

Compile and update quality reports.

Train and develop lab personnel to ensure competency.

Ensure compliance with EH&S and Integrated Management Systems.

Maintain housekeeping standards in the lab.

Coordinate with relevant bodies such as NRCS and SABPS where required.

Perform additional duties in the interest of Cemza as required.

Minimum Requirements
  • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry.
  • 2–4 years’ experience in a Quality Control or Laboratory environment.
  • Familiarity with Quality Management Systems.
  • Experience with advanced, computer-driven lab instruments.
  • Knowledge of SANS standards and coordination with NRCS/SABPS.
  • Ability to handle high-volume workloads and tight deadlines.

  • Experience in cement or heavy manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to drive quality improvements and team performance.
