Job Description

Cemza Coastal is seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Cape Town. This role is responsible for maintaining acceptable efficiency standards of plant machinery through preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs.

The successful candidate will be required to inspect, diagnose, and repair heavy equipment, ensuring all machinery operates safely and efficiently. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a demanding industrial environment and has strong technical expertise across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

Duties & Responsibilties
  • Operate and inspect machines and heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Perform routine maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and servicing.
  • Overhaul and test machinery to ensure optimal performance.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using appropriate tools.
  • Repair or replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and hydraulic systems.
  • Read and interpret manuals, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Conduct inspections to identify wear and potential failures.
  • Weld or solder components where required.
  • Adjust and maintain sub-assemblies such as engines and transmissions.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to identify faults and determine repairs.
  • Maintain parts inventory and service records.
  • Schedule maintenance and ensure equipment uptime.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Minimum Requirements
  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic (relevant trade certification).
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a maintenance environment.
  • Hydraulic and basic electrical fault-finding experience (advantageous).
  • Strong technical knowledge of plant and heavy equipment.
Bonus Points
  • Experience in heavy industrial or cement environments.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure.
  • Strong safety awareness and compliance mindset.
Package & Renumeration
  • Salary: R20,000 – R25,000 CTC per month (based on experience).
  • Permanent position.
  • Based at Cemza Coastal, Cape Town.
