Junior Health, Safety and Environmental Officer

Cemza is looking for a proactive and responsible Junior Health, Safety and Environmental Officer to assist in ensuring a safe and compliant workplace at our Gqeberha facility. The successful candidate will support the implementation of safety protocols, participate in risk assessments, and help maintain environmental standards in accordance with company policies and legal regulations. This entry-level role is suited to someone with strong attention to detail, communication skills, and a passion for health, safety, and sustainability in an industrial environment.
Assist with daily HSE inspections and reporting.
Support the coordination and implementation of health and safety procedures.
Conduct toolbox talks and basic safety training sessions.
Participate in incident investigations and compile preliminary reports.
Monitor and assist with waste disposal, spill control, and environmental compliance.
Assist in maintaining PPE issuance and compliance registers.
Ensure safety signage and equipment are in place and functional.
Maintain accurate documentation of safety records and registers.
Support audits, safety drills, and emergency response planning.
Promote a safety-first culture throughout the plant.
Perform any additional duties as instructed in the interest of Cemza operations.
Matric (Grade 12) required.
Tertiary qualification or certificate in Health & Safety or Environmental Management (advantageous).
1–2 years’ experience in a health and safety role, preferably in manufacturing or industrial environments.
Basic knowledge of OHS Act and environmental legislation.
Computer literacy and administrative skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with various levels of staff.
Strong attention to detail, record-keeping, and compliance awareness.
Experience supporting HSE audits or compliance inspections.
Working knowledge of ISO 45001 or ISO 14001 standards.
Certification in First Aid or Fire Fighting.
Ability to assist with environmental reporting and documentation.
Salary: R10,000 – R15,000 per month (negotiable based on experience).
