Job Description

This role involves diagnosing, adjusting, repairing, and overhauling mobile mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical equipment, such as forklifts, at our Cape Town Port location. Key responsibilities include inspecting and operating machinery, conducting routine maintenance, repairing electrical systems, welding, troubleshooting faults, and maintaining service records. Candidates should be ready to work in a dusty environment and be available for overtime when required. This is an excellent opportunity to grow within the company for a hands-on individual who values precision, dependability, and integrity.

Duties & Responsibilties
  • Operate and inspect heavy machinery to identify defects.
  • Perform routine maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication.
  • Repair or replace damaged components like engines and transmissions.
  • Troubleshoot and rewire electrical systems.
  • Assemble and align gear systems and machinery frames.
  • Maintain parts inventory and service schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with manufacturers’ specifications through thorough testing.
  • Use diagnostic equipment to identify faults or malfunctions.
  • Dismantle, repair, and reassemble heavy equipment.
  • Keep detailed service records.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years as a Mechanic (not a Driver).
  • Licenses/Certifications: Valid driver’s license and Forklift License.
  • Other: Must have own transport to the Cape Town Port.
Bonus Points
  • Welding and soldering experience.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Previous work in an industrial or heavy machinery environment.
  • Familiarity with computerised diagnostic equipment.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing work conditions.
